I was not very high on Marlins outfielder Chris Coghlan in the preseason, but he is making me look silly for being down on him. On Monday night, he went 3-4 with a walk, 2 home runs, 3 runs scored and 2 runs batted in. On the season, he is hitting .301-.359-.554 with 4 homers, 13 RBIs and a SB. He has a 19-8 K/BB rate, but is striking out in almost 25% of his 83 at bats this season. He has hit in 8 of his last 10 games and raised his batting average from .271 to .301.
Last year, Coghlan hit .268-.335-.383 with 5 homers, 28 RBIs and 10 SBs in 358 at bats.
I thought the Marlins were crazy for putting Coghlan out in center field, but he has played ok out there from what I can tell. I came into the season thinking that Coghlan had more value as a second baseman than an outfielder, and think I will still be right about him as the season progresses.
