This article informs you of backup goalies who have been verified to start today so you don't have to worry about getting a goose-egg in your goalie stats for playing your #1 goalie if other options available. It also is a good chance to make some sneaky pickups in same-day transaction leagues.
Jonathan Bernier, Kings vs. Canadians - He's a talented goalie with upside but there's not much to glean from his only start against the Habs. He hasn't been playing as great as he should be so far this season so I wouldn't recommend using him.
Johan Hedberg, Devils vs. Jets - He's got a good track record against the former Thrashers. It's pretty much a timeshare at this point so he might be available in some leagues and if so, he's a solid pickup in same-day leagues.
Mathieu Garon, Lightning vs. Rangers - With only three starts under his belt, he's done a good job against the Rangers but they're stronger than the past so you may need to take that into consideration if you're thinking of picking him up.
Brian Elliott, Blues vs. Ray Emery, Blackhawks - Not much to get from this since he's only played the Hawks twice in his career but he's done a good job in both starts. Pairing with his red hot play lately and the arrival of Ken Hitchcock, he's worth the pickup if he hasn't already been picked up. Conversely, Emery done a good job against the Blues but this is a different team than what he has dealt with in the past so he makes for a decent play.
UPDATE
Michal Neuvirth, Capitals vs. Senators - It hasn't been a great year for Neuvirth and the underperforming Caps in general. Despite having a great track record against the Sens, I can't recommend using him if you have him.
Brent Johnson, Penguins vs. Hurricanes - Johnson has a decent record against 18 starts against the Hurricanes. Considering how poorly the Canes has been playing as a whole, Johnson might be a good start.
Anders Lindback, Predators vs. Sabres - It's hard to say how well he's going to do when he's only played two games this season behind the dependable Pekka Rinne. You likely can't pick him up even in same-day leagues now that the first game is played so you can bench Rinne if you have him and need to start someone else.
Scott Clemmensen, Panthers vs. Thomas Greiss, Sharks - Both have played each other's team only once in their careers and it wasn't pretty either way. Still, it should make for an interesting match since both teams are doing well recently so that means I wouldn't recommend starting either one.
