Prospects Chat: Excerpts from Keith Law Chat

ESPN'S Keith Law held a chat yesterday with his readers, and here are a few excerpts:

Phil (UK)

True or False: Joe Mauer would be of far greater long-term value to the Twins if he moved to a position where he was less exposed to injury.

I vote true, but I'll concede it might be too late to matter.

I couldn't agree more, especially with the second part of his response. Mauer is not the same hitter he was in the past. I have not been shy about voicing my dislike for Mauer here at Fake Teams. He mentioned at the end of the season that he would be working out harder this offseason, so maybe he can bounce back after an injury-filled 2011 season.

Ron (Tuscon)

Does Javier Baez have star potential with his bat. Is he the Cubs top prospect?

Klaw
  (1:15 PM)

Yes. Yes.

For the dynasty leaguers out there, Baez was the Cubs first round pick in 2011, so he is one to target in 2012 fnatasy drafts.

More excerpts after the jump:

Mark (Lyme, CT)

Cespedes=?

Klaw
  (1:17 PM)

Yes. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Yeah, Yoenis Cespedes has been hyped a bunch since the 20 minute video was released about a week ago. Some think he can play in the big leagues now, others say he needs some time in the minors. What we do know is that he is a free agent out of Cuba, and he has power. As we learn more about him, I will pass it on.

Les (Cincinnati)

Does Robbie Grossman's fractured hamate affect where you put him on the Top 100 list, or even kick him off there completely?

Klaw
  (1:42 PM)

Won't affect his rankings because those are about the long term - but it does lower what I expect from him in 2012, especially in the power department.

I had not heard this about Grossman, so that could impact his performance early in 2012. He should still see time in Pittsburgh by 2013, in my opinion.
