Fantasy Football 2011: Week 5 Wide Receiver Rankings

Week 4 was just another week in the NFL for the WR position. Wes Welker goes bonkers again. Calvin Johnson scores another 2 touchdowns. And another star WR leaves the game with a potentially serious injury. Andre Johnson...come on down! To the infirmary, that is. For those of you looking for Andre Johnson replacements in the short-term, I hope you have some decent players on your roster. Otherwise, I'd recommend picking up Jacoby Jones, Denarius Moore, Victor Cruz, David Nelson, Danario Alexander or even Preston Parker for the short-term.

What makes Johnson's injury even worse is it comes during the bye weeks. With 6 teams on bye this week, it's crucial to win. Hopefully the rankings below help you overcome your weaknesses and opponents this week.

First things first, let's quickly review my week 4 calls to see if they helped you at all:

I loved Calvin Johnson, Denarius Moore, AJ Green, Titus Young and Julio Jones. The results are in...

Megatron went for 8 catches, 96 yards and 2 touchdowns, including the game-winner against Dallas. He's unstoppable, on pace for 32 touchdowns.

Moore sucked against the NFL's worst defense. He was quiet with 3 catches and 19 yards until he scored in garbage time to salvage a terrible day. This is why I don't trust Oakland.

AJ Green had another solid game with 4 catches for 118 yards. He's averaging 78 yards/game so far in his impressive rookie year.

Speaking of impressive, Julio Jones led all players with 17 targets in week 4 and responded with 11 catches and 127 yards. He's yet to score this year, but expect him to hit paydirt shortly.

Although Titus Young only had 3 catches in week 4, he appears to have overtaken Nate Burleson for the WR # 2 in Detroit.

I didn't like Nate Washington and Anquan Boldin in week 4. Washington was held to two catches while Boldin only could grab one ball while being stranded on Revis Island.

Players I Like More Than You Do:

Julio Jones - averaging almost 86 yards per game as a rookie, Jones constantly draws single coverage. With defenses keyed in on Roddy White, Jones will keep this up.

Percy Harvin - Had 109 yards on 9 touches last week and goes up against the porous Arizona Pass D. The Vikings need to give the ball to just Harvin and AP if they want to get their first win.

Santonio Holmes - was targeted 13 times in that putrid "game" against the Ravens. Called out the Offensive Line after the loss and will get his share of touches against the Pats.

Marques Colston - now fully healthy in what should be a shootout against the Carolina Newtons. Look for Brees to rely on him and Jimmy Graham.

Players I Don't Like More Than You Do:

Vincent Jackson - While trying to overcompensate for his groin injury against Miami, he appears to have injured his hamstring. If Jackson plays, he'll be less than 100%. I don't see him playing all of the snaps in week 5, and the Bolts will presumably rely on Tolbert and Mathews with Gates out and V-Jax hurting.

Johnny Knox - Until Jay Cutler consistently passes the ball to a receiver not named Matt Forte, the Bears' receivers will be hard to rely on, even in nice match-ups.

Nate Burleson - Titus Young appears to have overtaken Burleson as Detroit's # 2 WR. Will fight for targets behind Megatron, Young, Jahvid Best and Brandon Pettigrew.

Robert Meachem - Looks like he's the Saints' # 4/5 target in the receiving pecking order with Colston healthy.

Don't Panic On: Santonio Holmes, Denarius Moore, Percy Harvin

Some Panic is Acceptable: Mike Williams, Nate Burleson, Mario Manningham

Go All In On: Hakeem Nicks

Fold: Dolphins WR's

Buy Low: Santonio Holmes, Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, Anquan Boldin, Marques Colston

Sell High: Wes Welker (this is his absolute peak), Roddy White
