Down On The Farm: John Sickels' Top 20 Angels and Phillies Prospect for 2011

John Sickels posted his Top 20 Angels prospects for 2011 over at Minor League Ball on Saturday and here is what he had to say about second base prospect Jean Segura, who keeper league owners should be aware of on draft day:

3) Jean Segura, 2B, Grade B: He's for real. Could put up huge numbers in the California League, and this grade may be a bit too conservative.

Segura had a fantastic 2010 season in Low A hitting .313-.365-.464 with 10 HRs, 79 RBIs and 50 SBs. He also had 24 doubles, 12 triples and a solid 72-45 K/BB rate in the pitcher-friendly Midwest League.

John published his Top 20 Phillies prospects for 2011 and here is what he had to say about a guy I am keeping my eye on for the 2011 UBA draft:

2) Jonathan Singleton, 1B, Grade B+: Concern over poor second half splits kept me from going with the A-, but I do like him a lot. Can he adjust to the outfield? How will bat play in Florida State League?

Singleton hit .290-.393-.479 with 14 HRs, 79 RBIs and 9 SBs in Low A Lakewood. He will probably move up to High A in 2011 and it will be interesting to see if he can maintain his solid eye at the plate against more advanced pitching while learning a new position in the outfield.
