Down On The Farm: John Sickels' Top 20 Dodgers Prospects for 2011

John Sickels published his Top 20 Los Angeles Dodgers Prospects for 2011 on Thursday over at Minor League Ball. Here is what he had to say about a personal favorite of mine:

2) Jerry Sands, 1B-OF, Grade B: I think his bat is for real, should be a very productive power hitter. Ranks behind Gordon due to future position value but that is not a knock on Sands.

I am glad to see him rank him so high in the Dodgers system, and wonder if he makes Sickels Top 50 hitting prospects in 2011. Sands had a breakout season in 2010, hitting .301-.395-.586 with 35 HRs, 93 RBIs, and 18 SBs. I wonder if Sands is the reason why Ned Colletti hasn't signed a starting left fielder this offseason. I can see Sands getting some time at 1B and LF in 2010, but he will probably start 2011 in AAA.

Head on over to Minor League Ball and check out the rest of the Dodgers Top 20 Prospects for 2011.
