Here is Thursday’s group of minor league players. Their statistics shown are for May 20 through May 25. Jason Donald was promoted a little over a week ago and is holding his own with the Indians. Nick Weglarz was promoted to AAA. Fernando Martinez is still injured. And, keeping with the Indians theme (sorry Fernando), Alex White was promoted to AA and pitched well enough to get the win in his debut. Click below for player stats and info.

- Josh Bell is having a solid year thus far but has a K-rate of 28%. He doesn’t walk much either – only 6BB in 172AB.
- Lars Anderson tore up AA ball and has been OK after his move to AAA – nothing spectacular yet (22K in 22 games) and he most likely will remain at this level the remainder of the year.
- Jason Castro is sporting a .390 OBP thanks to 25BB vs. only 21K so far this season. His average is only at .266 but it appears he is handling the strike zone well – it’s possible he could be unlucky with balls in play, if that’s the case we could see his average spike and he could quickly move up ranking lists.
- Josh Reddick’s struggles continue. For the season he own a .188 AVE / ..288 OBP / .350 SLG.
- Nick Weglarz was promoted to AAA where he promptly started 1 for 15 but ended his AA year quite solid with 7 HR, 27 RBI, .286 AVE in 37 games.
- Jiovanny Mier was a hot prospect (at least in the league I am in where we also manage a minor league roster) early in the year but has been pretty disappointing so far. He sits at .210 AVE / .309 OBP / .263 SLG
- We reported that Jason Donald was promoted by the Indians last week – right now through 9 games he has a .267 Ave. with 1 HR and 2 RBI batting at the bottom of the order. Donald can steal some bases and as he adds that part of his game I think a #2 hitter would be an excellent slot for him.
- Andrew Cashner continues to roll since his AAA promotion. He is 3-0 with 14K vs. only 2 BB since being promoted. He will force the Cubs to give him a look.
- Brandon Erbe now is 0-8 with a 6.80 ERA (actually lowered it this week).
- Mike Minor is second in the minor leagues in strike outs with 72K’s. He has pitched only 49.2 innings. All those K’s have lead to a good 3.44 ERA but only a 1-3 record.
- Matt Moore moved to 0-5 on the year. He gets plenty of strike outs (58) but is hurting himself with 30BB in 42 IP. He has good stuff but needs to reign in his command.
- Alex White got the win in his first start at AA. He posted an A-ball line of 2.86 ERA with 41K and 19BB in 44 IP.
- Jay Jackson continues to excel in his new role as a relief pitcher. Since being converted to relief, he has allowed 1 ER. He seems to have found his niche.
- Daniel Schlereth gave up 2 ER in his last outing which was his first ER allowed in a month of work. The last ER he gave up was back on April 24.
- Aaron Poreda now has 21BB, 19K in 20 innings of work. I have harped on his control before, same still applies.
- Simon Castro has been very good. He is now 3-1 with a 1.75 ERA and has 41K vs. only 15 BB.
