I should have several posts today after just one short one yesterday. Here is some thoughts about Saturday's spring training action:
Those of you wondering where manager Joe Torre would bat Matt Kemp in the lineup should know that Kemp batted second yesterday. Should he bat second all year, we could see 40 SBs from him since Furcal isn't really the base stealer he once was.
Twin's closer Joe Nathan left Saturday's game with tightness in his right elbow. Not a good sign, and I wonder if he was hurt in the playoffs last year, as he got hit around.
Mariners first round pick Dustin Ackley batted 7th and played second base yesterday, going 0-4 and is hitting .143 in early action. Can he stick at 2b?
Newly signed infielder Felipe Lopez started at 3B and batted second for the Cardinals going 0-4. I am curious if manager Tony Larussa is serious about having a powerless infield besides Pujols should Lopez be his starter at 3B.
Mets outfield prospect Fernando Martinez went 4-4 with 2 HRs and 3 RBIs. He hit the homers off two pitchers that will probably be pitcing in AAA somewhere this season. First base prospect Ike Davis had a good day as well, going 3-5 with 2 RBI. He is giving Jerry Manuel alot to think about in March so far.
Giants starter Jonathan Sanchez pitched two scoreless inning, but gave up 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 3. HE was compared to Clayton Kershaw?
Jake Fox backed up catcher Landon Powell in Saturday's action. His bat at catcher everyday would move him up the rankings very quickly in 2010.
Johnny Damon went 1-3 yesterday for the Tigers. I wonder who is going to be missed more: Damon by Yankee fans or Curtis Granderson by Tigers fans?
