I am working on my 2011 Shortstop Rankings and am having a hard time ranking Jimmy Rollins and Derek Jeter. As I have stated before, and will state again, shortstop is a thin position in fantasy baseball. After the top 3-Hanley Ramirez, Troy Tulowitzki and Jose Reyes, who do you draft? You can wait till the later rounds and find a decent shortstop, but nobody you would want to draft in the first 8-10 rounds in my opinion.
That leads me to who you would rather have in 2011-Jimmy Rollins or Derek Jeter? I think it is a tough call as both are coming off bad seasons, Rollins more so than Jeter. But both are getting old, and one, Rollins, is an injury risk.
Here are their stats for 2010:
Rollins-8 HRs, 41 RBIs, 48 runs scored, 17 SBs, .243-.320-.374
Jeter-10 HRs, 67 RBIs, 111 runs scored, 18 SBs, .270-.340-.370
I will rank both in the top 10, but am curious who you would rather have in 2010? Do they bounce back after sub-par seasons, or does age and injury continue to hurt their performance at the plate?
