A few nights ago, I completed another offseason deal in the UBA NL-only keeper league. I have an opening at 2B/MI and made similar offers for Rickie Weeks and Dan Uggla. I had gone back and forth with the owner of Weeks for a few weeks, and we were pretty close to a deal. I then emailed the owner of Dan Uggla to guage his interest in dealing Uggla (we had talked earlier in the offseason).
The offers were:
Rickie Weeks for #2 pick in minor league draft, or MLD,(think Brandon Belt)/Simon Castro at $5 S2/Melvin Mora at $10 S2/2nd round pick in MLD
Dan Uggla for #2 pick in minor league draft, or MLD,(think Brandon Belt)/Simon Castro at $5 S2/Melvin Mora at $10 S2
I made the offer to the owner for Dan Uggla after pretty much deciding I would do the Weeks deal, but then he came back saying he would accept my offer, so I traded for Uggla.
My reason was because Uggla is a consistent 30 HR, 90 RBI second baseman who has increased his BB% over the last few years, and he is moving to a better lineup. Plus he hit 19 of his 33 HRs on the road in 2010. Weeks, I like alot, but he has a history of injuries, and has had one really good year. I think he can increase his SB totals in 2011, but went with the safer hitter.
Would you have made the Uggla deal?
