John Sickels posted his Top 20 Texas Rangers Prospects for 2011 over at his site-Minor League Ball. After a quick review of the Top 20, you can tell John is not comfortable with some of the rankings and grades he has assigned.
Here is what he had to say about former top pitching prospect Martin Perez:
2) Martin Perez, LHP, Grade B+: I'm firm on this grade, one notch lower than last year. I know he was young for the Texas League, but still. . .it was not a good season, and I'm concerned that his stuff wasn't as consistent this year. Keep in mind a B+ still makes him a really good prospect in my view.
Perez struggled in AA this season, which isn't surprising as he is only 19 years old. Perez was 5-8 with a 5.96 ERA and 1.676 WHIP in his 23 starts. He struck out 101 and walked 50 in just under 100 innings pitched in 2010.
