Tuesday's Roto Round Up: Johan Santana Gives Up 4 Homers, Josh Beckett Dominates The Yankees

Tuesday's round up is highlighted by the Phillies placing closer Brad Lidge on the DL, with GM Ruben Amaro being quoted as saying his first priority is looking for bullpen help because he doesn't know when Lidge will return. The Phillies have been rumored to be interested in Rockies OFer Ryan Spilborgh. Could Spilborgh be packaged with closer Huston Street for a few of the Phillies pitching and OF prospects?

SP, Johan Santana, NYM-a day after I post an article on how Citifield is an extreme pitcher's park Santana goes out and gives up 4 HRs, 3 of them to left-handed hitters Ryan Howard, Raul Ibanez and Chase Utley. To top it off, he only strikes out two Phillies, and still wins his 8th game of the season. He struck out only 3 in his last start vs the Pirates, after throwing a season-high 120 pitches in his 11 K effort vs the Nationals on May 27th.

MR, Rafael Soriano, ATL-Soriano pitched the 9th for the 2nd night in a row on Tuesday to earn his 5th save of the season. It appears manager Bobby Cox is playing match-ups, rather than sticking with the age old "my set up man pitches the 8th, and my closer pitches the 9th" line of thinking.

OF, Nolan Reimold, BAL-Reimold hit his 7th HR in less than 80 ABs. He now has 16 RBI and is hitting .295. Could he out-hit Matt Weiters??

C, Matt Wieters, BAL- Wieters collected 2 hits to raise his avg. to .194. Roto owners should be patient with Wieters as he has light-hitting SS Robert Andino protecting him in the 9 hole.

SP, Josh Beckett, BOS-Beckett limited the Yankees to 1 hit and 2 walks in 6 scoreless innings, striking out 8. He has given up only 1 ER in his last 4 starts.

OF, Carlos Gonzalez, COL-Gonzalez went 2 for 4 with his first RBI and SB since getting called up last week. He is going to have to produce for Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd to keep his job-just one man's opinion.

3B, Mat Gamel, MILW-Gamel his his 2nd HR of the season vs the Rockies. When does Ken Macha give him the everyday role at 3b over struggling Bill Hall?

OF, Matt Kemp, LAD-how many other managers in baseball would bat a guy hitting .304 with 13 SBs 8th in the lineup??

OF, Ben Zobrist, TB-Zobrist hit his 12th HR of the season, and now has 35 RBI in 148 ABs. Zobrist never hit more than 7 HRs in the minors, so does the power stick??

SP, Stephen Strasburg, WAS-Strasburg was taken first overall in Tuesday's MLB draft by the Nationals. No surprise here. How many will be surprised if Strasburg starts 2010 in the minors?
