The Tampa Bay Rays lost the middle infield to the disabled list. The recall of middle man Reid Brignac seemed to signal the rookie would see regular time at one of the positions, but that hasn't exactly occurred. Willy Aybar has received the start at 2B in the teams' 1st four games post-Bartlett & Iwamura and Zobrist has received half the starts at SS.
Brignac doesn't seem to be much more than a utility infielder at this point, but, more importantly, Zobrist has now started six consectuives games. He looks like the big playing time winner of the bad luck that befell Bartlett and Iwamura.
With 8 HRs and 5 SBs, Zobrist has been one of the more unheralded players in fantasy circles thanks to a part-time utility tag that normally keeps mixed leaguers away. That no longer seems to be the case.
On a team committed to stealing bases, Zobrist has been allowed to run. With the power of a post-gamma ray Bruce Banner, he has the bat the drive the ball over the fences. On top of those very favorable skills, he draws walks with the best of them as his .405 OBP demonstrates.
Who shouldn't he be starting over at SS in fantasy leagues?
