Last night, the official Fake Teams 4x4 NL-only keeper league kicked-off. With six-man reserve lists this officially qualifies as a deep league. As a result, I focused on adding everyday players without the level of attention to AVG I normally use in mixed leagues.
Other than being able to field a hitting squad that should be very competitive, I was surprised how quickly the auction devolved into $12-$15 players. I certainly was regretting spending big on Jose Reyes, Ryan Braun and Tim Lincecum when Andre Either went for $7, Justin upton at $14, Jayson Werth at $17, etc. Fortunately, there wasn't one team scooping up these tremendous values. Everyone was down to the same amount of cash by then.
I like my team better this morning than I did at 12:45 AM when the draft finished. I am weak in Saves, but feel I have enough speed/hitting to address that area as the season progresses. I didn't focus too much on the keeper aspect, though. That may be a bigger regret especially if this team proves to be terminally weak in another area.
