Spring Training Notes: Johan's Debut and Ubaldo Ryan??

Now that I got the UBA trade post out of the way, I decided to get back to the spring training notes, while listening to ESPN's Fantasy Focus podcast-which sucks:

  • Johan Santana makes his spring training debut on Thursday. Where does he drop in snake drafts should he get shelled?
  • Speaking of spring training debuts, Manny Ramirez makes his debut on Thursday vs. Korea. Has any faketeams readers been to Arizona for spring training? I may go next year.
  • Brandon Webb gave up 3 run in 3 innings on Tuesday, and hasn't looked particularly good so far this spring training. Webb owners getting worried?
  • Nate Silver and Matthew Berry just ranked these pitchers (Bronson Arroyo, Paul Maholm, Chris Carpenter, and Randy Johnson) like this: Johnson, Carpenter, Maholm and Arroyo. Will Johnson and Carpenter stay healthy all year?? I don't think so. Must have been taped before Maholm threw 4 scoreless inning yesterday.
  • Rockies starting pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez struck out 10 Netherland hitters in 4 innings two nights ago. He could be a sleeper in 2009. You hear me Rad??
  • Cubs closer Carlos Marmol blew the game for the Dominican Republic on Tuesday night...well, he got some help from Willy Aybar. How long does Marmol last as the Cubs closer?
  • Another Rockies pitcher, Aaron Cook, struck out 7 in 5 innings on Wednesday. I guess the Rockies pitchers like to pitch away from Coors.
  • Rockies closer update: it appears Manny Corpas has taken the lead with a scoreless inning yesterday, while Huston Street is nursing a leg injury.
  • Cardinals closer update: Jason Motte notched a save on Tuesday. Could he have taken the lead from Chris Perez, along with all the other relievers Tony Larussa has thrown in the mix?
  • Does anyone else think Max Sherzer will be the Diamondbacks closer at the end of the year?
