Injury Updates On Derek Jeter & Jorge Posada Plus A Scary MLB Development

In what can only be interpretted as an East Coast bias for the New York Yankees, the Powers That Be at Baseball Prospectus have made the first two players covered under Will Carroll's Under The knife column available to non-subscribers.  Those players names?  Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada.

Click though for Mr. Carroll's full report on each player, and updates on a couple/few handfuls of others for us BP subscribers.  He offers a couple of things to look for when Jeter returns, assuming there is no DL stint coming, and cautions those willing to throw GM Biran Cashman under the bus for signing the old catcher for four seasons.

I'm not convinced Cashman is scott-free for the $52MM four-year signing, but the Yankees do have an opening in 2009 for a 1B.  Posada could get that spot if his shoulder does nto recover enough to allow him to be an effective player in deterring the SB.

FWIW, I think the SB is coming back thanks to the diligent work of numbers-crunchers everywhere and the move towards draconian enforcement fo anti-PEd usage.  "Draconian"?  Yeah.  Jordan Schafer was caught by the special investigative unit suggested by the Mitchell Report - the same one that cornered Jose Canseco in a bathroom a week or so ago at a book signing in NYC.

Update [2008-4-9 16:3:24 by Eric Hz]: Mark Feinsand reports in his Daily news blog that Derek jeter seems likely to go on the DL tonight because Alberto Gonzlaez, AAA Scranton Wilkes-Barre's starting SS, is in Kansas City. His team plays a home game tonight in Pennsylvania!
