Spring Training Boxscores: Fantasy Notes

  • Yesterday, Jeff Baker was paired with SS Tory Tulowitzki.  Today, Jayson Nix had Clint Barmes as his double play partner.  He did hit a HR, though.
  • Ivan Rodriguez went 3-3 with two doubles and a home run.  He is a free agent after this season.  Would he be a good candidate to out-perform his past couple season's average production?
  • Francisco Liriano allowed no runs in 1.2 innings of work with one K.  Denard Span started in CF and went 0-4 and is now hitting .167 this Spring.  Carlos Gomez started the other split-squad games and went 2-5 with a SB to bring his Spring AVG to .222.
  • Johnny Cueto struck out four in three scoreless innings for the Reds.  Is Dusty Baker drooling over the possibility of the 5'10 right-hander throwing 200+ innings for the Reds?
  • Ulnar collateral ligament?  I don't need no ulnar collateral ligment!  Albert Pujols hit his 3rd Grapefruit League HR and walked twice.  He's hitting .471 this spring.
  • Nick Johnson went 3-3 with a couple of doubles.  Somehow I think the $11MM Jim Bowden gave Dmitri Young to eat himself out of the majors will turn out to be a mistake.  Even better will be the rumored offers Bowden asks for in trade discussions for him.
  • Scott Hairston started in CF for the Padres and went 2-3 with a HR.  With Chase Headley getting the headlines, Hairston has slipped beneath the radar.  Even as a 4th OF on that team, I see him getting 400 ABs.
  • Brandon Wood started at 3B and was 0-3.  Unfortunately, he struck out all three times. What is that ticking sound I hear?
  • The Rangers started David Murphy, Josh Hamilton and Marlon Byrd in the outfield again.  What will be noteworthy is if the team stops starting this group together.  Otherwise, this looks like the Opening Day OF, and these players should be veiwed accordingly.
