There has been some buzz this past week over a post at Deadspin suggesting that the current Microsoft takeover attempt of Yahoo! might mean that Yahoo Sports is sold off -- maybe to ESPN
Like any fantasy sports enthusiast, this sends cold shivers down my spine. Luckily, I don't think it's going to happen. The odds that Yahoo would be broken up into different parts seems very slim to me, though I'll leave that to business experts.
What seems more likely to me -- and much scarier -- is that Microsoft will gobble up Yahoo! and just staple Yahoo Sports into MSNBC. NBC is the only major TV broadcaster that doesn't have their own in-house fantasy games. Instead, they only provide a strange link to Rotoworld and Sporting News. Ugh. (Blogging note: It's probably not a good idea to have a link titled "strange link")
I can't imagine the loss to the fantasy world if Yahoo's clean, free, simple and free fantasy games become NBC-ized. Al Michaels! Tiki Barber! And...John Madden!
