2008 Fantasy Football Drafts: The Tom Brady Strategy

Late Saturday afternoon, I decided to test what a 2008 fantasy football team would look like if Patriots QB Tom Brady was selected 5th overall.  It was a standard 12-team league with one starting QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, a Flex and a K and DEF.

At #5, I selected Brady ahead of Mock Draft Central's 5th-rated player, Rams RB Stephen Jackson.  If 2008's rankings reflect the state of next year's draft borads - lots of QBs and WRs ranked very high, then one can see what happens if Brady is selected early - the RB pool will be depleted by the time your second pick comes back!

What do you think?

  1. QB  Tom Brady NE
  2. RB  Earnest Graham TB
  3. WR  Braylon Edwards CLE
  4. WR  Brandon Marshall DEN
  5. RB  Thomas Jones NYJ
  6. RB  DeAngelo Williams CAR
  7. WR  Bernard Berrian CHI
  8. QB  Ben Roethlisberger PIT
  9. TE  Vernon Davis SF
  10. TE  Tony Scheffler DEN
  11. RB  Brandon Jackson GB
  12. WR  Devin Hester CHI
  13. WR  Mike Furrey DET
  14. RB  LaMont Jordan OAK
  15. WR  Craig Davis SD
  16. DEF  Dallas Cowboys
Here is a link to the draft grid. (NOTE:  I left the draft after selecting QB Ben Roethlisberger in the 8th round.  To me that made the Brady Strategy unviable.)
