With talks collapsing around a Boston Red Sox signing of Mark Teixeira, these two sentences from George A. King III's Notes column struck me as more worthy of ink than all the stories on the C.C. Sabathia and A.J. Burnett press conference.
After introducing free-agent pitchers CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett yesterday, Hal Steinbrenner said the Yankees continue to shop."We will look at all options," said Steinbrenner, whose club still needs a starter and a middle-of-the-order bat. "We are going to stay with it until we are satisfied."
Despite Mark Teixeira being a middle-of-the-order bat and one half of what the New York Yankees need on defense, I do not believe the Yankees made one of the offers Scott Boras used to scare off John Henry and company. However, I do believe that LF Pat Burrell, 1B Adam Dunn, OF Milton Bradley and LF Manny Ramirez qualify as the middle-of-the-order bat that Hank Steinbrenner has on his wish list.
