Here Come The Backup Quarterbacks

Continuing the quarterback theme this week, there could be a couple of new starting quarterbacks in the NFL this week:

Byron Leftwich, Pit -- Roethlisberger's shoulder is being examined and there's a good chance that Leftwich will start against the Colts this week.  He looked pretty good (7 for 10, 127 pass yds, 1 TD, 0 INT) coming in off the bench against the Redskins on Monday Night but he won't be called on to do very much.  If he starts for Pittsburgh you could start him on your fantasy team if you really had to.  Hopefully you have better options.

Daunte Culpepper, Det -- Dan Orlovsky was really starting to put it together this season, but now a thumb injury likely has him out this week against the Jags.  The Lions coaching staff doesn't like Drew Stanton, so they brought in formerly retired, formerly injured Daunte Culpepper.  Wow.  Even the incredible (and underrated) skills of Calvin Johnson won't help Culpepper perform for your fantasy team.  He's really quite terrible.  Stay away from him.

Shaun Hill, SF -- You may have forgotten over the bye week, but J.T. O'Sullivan was benched in favor of Shaun Hill.  Hill has a very good matchup against the Cardinals and he played OK (320 yards, 4 TD, 1 INT) in two starts last season.  Yeah, Hill started the last two games of the season last year, I didn't remember that either.  Hill should also be motivated by the fact that if he doesn't play well, Head Coach Mike Singletary is likely to rip his arm off and beat him with it.   And then eat it.  Hill is a risky fantasy start this week but certainly not the worst option out there.
