With the Philadelphia Phillies fresh off a World Series championship, the opening of the General Manager Meeting tomorrow in California compel the Phillies brass to consider whether dealing Ryan Howard should be done. Jim Salisbury of the Philadelphia Inquirer sums up the situation:
After failing the last two winters, the Phils once again will talk about a multiyear deal with Howard, but don't be surprised if the two sides end up at the arbitrator's table again in February. Howard won a $10 million salary from the Phils last winter. His advisers made a case that he is a historic player, and he added to that legend by leading the majors in homers and RBIs this season. What will Howard seek in arbitration - $15 million? $18 million?
