Top Rush Defenses: New York Jets at New England Patriots

The New York Jets travel to Foxboro, MA to face the New England Patriots for the division lead in the AFC East after ten games. Both teams have seen their rushing fortunes improve. The Jets via a focus away from QB Brett Favre, and the Patriots thanks to the emergence of rookie RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Unfortunately, both teams are ranked amongst the best in rushing yards allowed. This tosses the outcome of the game on to the shoulders of the teams' QBs - Favre and Matt Cassell.

After the Jets gave their WRs a de facto game off last week, I can see Coach Mangini letting Brett Favre loose in the short week in hopes that the Patriots defense would not have enough time to game plan all possibilites. This makes WRs Laverneus Coles and Jerricho Cotchery possible starts. However, with no teams on bye, I can see leaving both on the bench.

The Jets signed former Patriot Ty Law on Monday. Will his knowledge of the Tom Brady-led offense translate to a Matt Cassel-led one? I would be a little surprised if it did. Regardless, WRs Randy Moss and Wes Welker are the same players they have been all season - maddingly inconsistent and the rock of consistency.
