Having pitched the previous two days, Rangers' closer C.J. Wilson was given yesterday off, and Joaquin Benoit successfully closed out last night's Rangers win. Benoit was the early favorite to close when Eric Gagne was dealt. While Wilson has done nothing but seize the role, one can never be too sure.
What is Mets' manager Willie Randolph doing using Guillermo Mota is a late-game situation? What about the now fully-rested left arm of closer Billy Wagner? Aaron Heilman was credited with a blown save in the 8th, but wouldn't a tie game in the 9th, and then in the 10th, merit Wagner's use - if in fact his arm is OK?
Are the Braves ever going to have a save opportunity? Since DFA-ing Bob Wickman, the team has not had one opportunity to show the rest of the baseball world who is the closer. I guess Pete Moylan is out as he pitched the 7th and 8th inning. That would make Rafael Soriano the obvious choice, but some proof would be nice.
