The American League has added a disappointing crop of rookie HR hitters. This was not supposed to occur. Royals 3B Alex Gordon and Devil Rays OF Delmon Young were projected to be elite hitters. 11 HRs for Gordon and 9 for Young say otherwise. As a matter of fact, White Sox 3B Josh Fields is likely to lead AL rookies in HRs as his 15 seems out of reach for 2007 - at least to those disappointed fantasy owners of Gordon and Young.
In the National League, the situation is different. Brewers 3B Ryan Braun has seamlessly handled his promotion from AAA to hit 24 HRs. However, that does not lead NL rookies. Arizona CF Chris B. Young does with 26 HRs. Rockies' SS Troy Tulowitzki's 17 HRs are impressive, but like Steve McCroskey in Airplane, TT picked the wrong season to be a rookie.
