NFL Notes - Vince Young, Randy Moss, Daunte Culpepper

Daunte Culpepper, QB, Oak - You've probably heard, but Culpepper signed a one-year deal with  the Raiders.  With JaMarcus Russell still holding out and the only other QB options in Oakland being Andrew Walter and Josh McCown, it's likely that Culpepper will start the season as the starter in Oakland.  He's a better fantasy option than Russell or McCown, but these are still the Raiders after all so he has a ceiling.  The Raiders will be throwing the ball a lot though, so Culpepper's worth a draft pick as a #2 QB in a 14 team or larger league.

Randy Moss, WR, NE - Moss left practice with a groin/hamstring injury yesterday which is never a good sign, but is an especially bad sign considering how dinged up Moss has been the past few years.   Don't panic but it's something worth keeping an eye on.

Chad Scott, DB, NE - Defensive back Chad Scott injured his knee and is out for the season.  The Pats had hoped Scott would step in to the starting spot while Asante Samuel holds out,  but now Scott is done for the season.  If the Patriots have a weakness it's their secondary (as Peyton Manning exposed during the AFC Championship last year) so this is a big setback for the team.

Vince Young, QB, Ten - Young got in a fight during  training camp with safety Donnie Nickey after Nickey took down WR Courtney Roby and VY didn't like it.  Vince swung at Nickey's helmeted head - with his throwing hand! - but didn't connect.  Everybody is fine.  The only reason I consider this news is this quote from Nickey.

"Someone comes at me, I'm not going to back down. I don't care if it's Vince, President Bush. That's just instincts that come out. But I respect him for it. I didn't want that to happen. I think it's over. We put it to bed," Nickey said.

Politics aside, I'd like to see President Bush run a post route and have Nickey defend him on the play.  Better yet, I'd like to see Bush run a post route and have Hillary Clinton defend him on the play.  I bet she could deliver a hit.  There's your political theater right there.
