News from training camps around the NFL. By the way, if you haven't seen the new NFL.com website, go check it out right now, they've made a lot of improvements. The individual team pages are very, very nice and will become invaluable to fantasy players this season.
Plaxico Burress, WR, NY Giants -- Burress has been out of training for two weeks with an ankle injury. He tried to return yesterday, though it was too painful and he had to stand on the sidelines. Not good. While Burress will likely return for the start of the season, a lingering ankle injury is never a good sign and Eli Manning can use all the practice throwing to his receivers that he can get. This makes rookie Steve Smith look a little better as well.
Chike Okeafor, LB, Arizona -- Reports are that he will be out for the season after surgery to reattach a biceps tendon. Ouch. Okeafor has been a consistent IDP in leagues that heavily reward sacks, but this finishes off any possible fantasy value for him.
Jon Kitna, QB, Detroit -- NFL.com analyst Pat Kirwan is somebody that annoys me far, far more often than he tells me something interesting. Want to guess which one it is this time?
He recently said that Jon Kitna is on his way to a 5,000 passing yard season. No, really. Here he is via the Detroit Free Press
Sigh, right....
- Jon Kitna is not going to throw for 5000 passing yards. That's over 310 yards per game. Not going to happen. Even with Shaun McDonald.
- Me not a professional writer but it bothers me when people use adverbs incorrectly. No Pat, the field could not "virtually" be 60 yards wide for Kitna. Virtually means "almost" or "for the most part". An NFL field is 53 1/3 yards wide - no more, no less. It isn't "almost" 60 yards wide for Kitna any more than it will be for any other quarterback. Ugh.
