Mark Teixeira Traded to Atlanta

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal is reporting the Atlanta Braves have acquired Rangers' 1B Mark Teixeira and 36-year-old lefty Ron Mahay for C/1B Jarrod Saltalamachia, SS Elvis Andrus and two pitching prospects, one of which is lefty Matt Harrison.

This is another good trade executed by Rangers' Gm Jon Daniels.  It follows the acquistions of .400+ OBp High A catcher Max Ramirez from the Indians for 40-year-old OF Kenny Lofton.  While the mass media accolades are deserved, I would have preferred the package of major-league experienced players the Angels offered - 1B Casey Kotchman, SP Joe Saunders and AAA OF Terry Evans.

I wonder if the trade rumors reported in the Arizona papers spurred the Braves into action.  While now moot, this is what was reported in the Arizona Republic this morning.

First baseman Conor Jackson reportedly would be included in any deal, but to get Teixeira, the Diamondbacks likely would have to part with considerably more, perhaps Double-A outfielder Carlos Gonzalez.
