Brewers' outfielder, and lead-off hitter, Corey Hart is having a season that looks exactly like the ones he had as a minorleaguer. There has been no drop-off in production due to the better competition in the majors versus that in the minors. There has been no increase in strikouts or decrease in walks. Nothing. If you simply took his AAA numbers and projected those on to his 2007 season, you be almost exactly right.
Given his minor league contact rates were never attention-grabbing nor have his walk totals been good or that his strikeouts been low, one would not have expected this. Just the opposite. One would expect those peripherals to result in less production as the lack of plate discipline and an ordinary ability to put the bat on the ball would be exposed by the much better pitchers and their ability to prepare via endless reams of videotape.
Will this continue? Component analysis says, "No." Could he be an exception? The answer has to be "Yes."
