Jason Campbell

I posted about TE Chris Cooley yesterday but you can't really figure out what Cooley is going to do until you figure out how QB Jason Campbell is going to perform this season.

Well, he didn't exactly breakout during his seven starts last season but it wasn't too bad.  He finished with a 53.1% completion rate, 1297 yards, 10 TDs and 6 INTs. But to be fair, this was the guy's rookie season.  He had some poor games and he had some pretty good games.  Taken all together, he performed ok.  Eh.

So, how is he going to do this season?  Well if you read this gushing USA Today article, Jason Campbell is the finest human being ever to wear a football helmet.    Yeesh!

That's just an example of the hype around Jason Campbell this season.  While he may lead the Redskins into playoff contention, I don't think he's going to be much of a factor for fantasy players.  The Redskins offense is going to be centered around the new running back committee of Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts so Campbell is not going to be throwing the ball down field a great deal this season.  He will be a decent #2 QB, somebody you can use on a bye week or if there's an injury but I hope you wouldn't need to use him long term.   He should be good news for TE Chris Cooley and RB Ladell Betts who catches a lot of balls out of the backfield though.  And he should be good news long-term for `Skins fans.  A year or two more and a serious deep threat and Campbell could become a fantasy stud.
