If there is concern about Joe Mauer's quadicreps, it was dispelled in the 3rd inning when Jose Reyes tried to lay down a bunt. Mauer pounced on it quicker than Reyes could get out of the batter's box.
The Cardinals placed CF Jim Edmonds on the DL. Instead of recalling Rick Ankiel (286/323/608 19 HRs), the team recalled Skip Schumaker. In their defense, Skip had a good AAA slash line of 314/379/500 and a little bit of success putting the bat on the ball as a major leaguer this year (2 K in 44 ABs so far.
The latest rookie pitching sensation, the Brewers' Yovanni Gallardo, picked-up the win in his major league debut. The line wasn't pretty, though, with just 4 K and 3 BBs in 6.1 innings. However, it would have looked much better if manager Ned Yost didn't do what fantasy players despise - bring a pitcher out to start an inning and watch him allow runners and runs, and then pull him. Without the 7th, Yo's line would have been a more attractive 6 IP 2 ER 4H 2BB and 4K. The K's are still low, though.
The Astros scored nine runs with Mark Loretta chipping in a 4-5 with three RBIs. The question is whether Chad Qualls blew the game because of poor defense or whether the Adam Everett Scoring Dividend continues to be reaped?
