At 3-2, Daisuke Matsuzaka is on pace for an 18 win season, and that would meet all pre-season expectations. He also has a 5.35 ERA, and that doesn't meet those same lofty expectations.
His WHIP is only 1.32, but it is better than the 1.37 AL one. (Overall hitting is still down this season as measured by last year's league WHIP of 1.41.) Dice-K has also struck out 39 in 37 innings.
There doesn't seem to be anything to worry about unless you split his seeason in half. His first three starts had a pitching line of 20 IP, 6 ER, 17 H, 5 BB and 24 Ks. His second three starts had a line of 18 IP, 17 ER, 18H, 10 BB and 15 Ks.
Has the league already caught-up to him after just three starts?
