Homer Bailey

The Reds placed LHP Eric Milton on the 15-day DL with elbow soreness.  Following the promotiuons of top pitching prospects Phil Hughes and Tim Lincecum, is there any reason for fantasy players not to hope that the Reds will follow suit and recall their top pitching prospect, David Dewitt Bailey, aka Homer Bailey?

Bailey has very good 4x4 statistics for the AAA Louisville Bats - 3 W, 1.83 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP.  However, in 5x5 formats, his Ks offer some concern.  He has only 21 in 34.1 innings pitched.  He has also walked 15 batters.  Are those the types of peripherals that should get fantasy players trigger-happy with the top waiver claims/FAAB dollars?

I don't think so.  The early efforts of Hughes and Lincecum offer a more likely pattern - a mixture of good and bad starts.

Keeper leagues are a different situation, though.  In those, the decision is based on the ability of your roster to withstand the erratic performances.  If it can, then the decision to get Bailey (and Hughes and Lincecum) in a simple one.  If it can't?
