Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports a huge trade is brewing between the Florida Marlins and Detroit Tigers. In exchange for SP Dontrelle Willis and 3B Miguel Cabrera, the Marlins will receive OF Cameron Maybin and SP Andrew Miller as the headliners in a package full of young players. While this is exciting, I don't see how the two Tigers prospects are better than the three the Angels offered - Howie Kendrick, Jeff Mathis and a pitcher with the possibility of CF Reggie Willits.
This doesn't account for the Dontrelle Willis portion either. This is an exciting rumor, but seems more like an attempt for attention than a serious deal.
Ron Neyer of ESPN.com chimes in during his weekly Tuesday Chat:
Rob Neyer: (12:25 PM ET ) Yeah, that's the hot one right now. I sure like the deal from the Marlins' perspective, though I liked the supposed deal with the Angels more.
The Detroit Free Press mentions that making Andrew miller available could open up the possibility of a trade to the Oakland A's for Dan Haren. Amongst the Tigers prospects the A's may like are "shortstop/second baseman Scott Sizemore, utility man Michael Hollimon, and first baseman Jeff Larish – who have the good plate discipline Oakland likes in position players."
How many more players would the Tigers need to add to make this a serious proposal?
