MLB Rumors: What About Andruw Jones?

Now that the #1 CF is off the market, those teams that lost out (Chicago White Sox and Texas Rangers) may turn their attention to Scott Boras' clinet, Andruw Jones.   However, there doesn't seem to be much interest in Jones.  One can't help but sense Jones is collateral damage in the owners' dislike of his agent.

Here are reports from three possible suitors:

Dave O'Brien of Atlanta Journal Constitution blogs on the possibility of Jones returning to Atlanta.

can tell you, everything I've heard is that the Braves will not be, that he's not coming back, regardless of speculation by many who wonder if Jones might go around the lightning-rod agent Scott Boras' back again and come back for a reduced one-year contract.

No, I'm told. Not gonna happen. Period.

Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star writes, "The Royals show scant interest in Rowand but continue to monitor Jones to see if he shows any willingness to accept a three-year deal or less."  He also leads off his article by stating Jose Guillen is the top choice of the Royals.  How far did Jones fall that steroids user Guillen is more desirable?

Finally, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News writes:

The next rung of center fielders includes free agent Andruw Jones, in whom the Rangers are only interested if he's willing to take a one-year deal. His agent, Scott Boras, has already said that won't happen. The club's interest in free agent Aaron Rowand is lukewarm.

Things don't look to good for Jones, do they?
