The Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers are reported to have pulled off a trade. The Tigers send utilityman Omar Infante to the Cubs for outfielder Jacques Jones.
Given the presence of utility types Ryan Theriot and Mark DeRosa in Chicago, this appears to be a move by the Cubs to shed the final year of Jacques Jones contract and open-up the centerfield job. My initial reaction is this was done for Felix Pie. However, the Cubs could have an eye on Japanese OF Kosuke Fukudome.
The Tigers add an OF capable of filling-in across the spacious greenery of Comerica Park and/or keeping LF warm for top prospect Cameron Maybin. The move also allows the team the luxury of using last season's rookie surprise, Ryan Raburn, in a platoon situation with Jones.
