Boston Red Sox Upstaged Again! Edgar Renteria Traded To Detroit

What the heck?  Doesn't anyone want to let the 2007 World Series Champions enjoy being the headliners of the day?

In addition to the classless move of Alex Rodiguez's agent last night, the Atlanta Braves and Detroit Tigers have pulled-off a trade.  Shortstop Edgar Renteria packs his bags for his fourth team in five seasons in exchange for minor league starter Jair Jurrjens and OF Gorkys Hernandez.

This means Detroit will move last season's SS, Carlos Guillen, to 1B and not resign 1B Sean Casey.  There does not appear to be too much lost in Jurrjens, who has had some arm issues, and Hernandez who is too far from the majors to worry about and blocked by Curtis Granderson and Cameron Maybin for the next several years.

The Braves open a full-time spot for SS Yuniel Escobar and replenish the upper tier of their top prospects after the Mark Teixeira trade.  This does weaken the team as Escobar's positional flexibility as a back-up infielder has been lost.
