Wow. Two consecutive do-or-die games and two consecutive failures by Hall-of-Fame pitchers. On sunday, it was the Mets' Tom Glavine, and last night it was the Padres' closer Trevor Hoffman. In an 8-6 game, Hoffman was brought in to close out the victory and advance his team the the play-offs.
Instead he allowed consecutive doubles to Kaz Matsui and Troy Tulowitzki and then a triple to NL MVP favorite Matt Holliday. Thanks to the rules, the sacrifice fly to Jamey Carroll allowed Hoffman Hoffman to record as many outs as Tom Glavine.
Did Holliday wrap-up the MVP award with his triple or will Phillies' SS Jimmy Rollins get it on the amazing numbers he produced?
