FOXSports is reporting the Red Sox are close to acquiring Mr. Colorado Rockie Todd Helton in exchange for RHR Craig Hansen and two minor league prospects. The deal hinges on how much the Rockies are willing to pay on the $90MM remaining on Helton's contract.
This is an odd deal for the Red Sox. They already have a similarly skilled 1B in Kevin Youkilis. There is no reason for the Red Sox to make this deal unless 1.)something else is on the burner to free-up ABs for Youkilis or 2.) the Red Sox have information that Helton's decline in performance was an illusion.
