Top AL Pick in 2007?

As the season begins to wind down, my focus turns towards minor league prospects likely to be drafted next April.

The one who is catching my eye now and will have everyone's by next April is Tampa Bay 3B Evan Longoria, the 3rd overall pick in this year's minor league draft.

The Tampa Tribune ran an informational article on Longoria and his rapid progress up the minor league ladder.

It was filled with laudatory quotes from DRays management and Longoria's minor league managers.

He is currently with the Montgomery Biscuits of the Southern League and hitting .378/.359/.784 in 37 AA ABs.  Overall, he has hit 16 HRs in 180 ABs.

The combination of high level success so quickly along with great power numbers will make Longoria one of the most talked about minor leaguers this winter and a top minor league draftee in fantasy leagues everywhere.

(And if I finish 6th in my AL-only league, the likely top pick.)
