Latest Rumors

The must-stop for the latest trade rumors and updates is FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.  In his latest edition, he reports the Astros are going to improve their offense come Hell or high water.

That was obvious, though.  They did recall Jason Lane yesterday when Orlando Palmeiro went on the bereavement list.  (Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!  Like a pitbull on a chew toy!)

Mr. Rosenthal also commented on the Proctor-for-Betemit rumor.

if the Yankees moved Proctor now, they almost certainly would need to add another late-inning reliever in a separate deal.
The addition of Betemit, whose best positions are third base and shortstop, also would be something of a head-scratcher.
Betemit could fill in at second while Robinson Cano recovers from his hamstring injury, but probably isn't a long-term solution at that position. His future playing time, then, likely would be minimal...

That sounded similar to this:

The Braves are 5.5 games back in the wildcard.  Dealing a 21-year-old low A catcher for a proven closer is a lot different than dealing an emerging major leaguer for a 29-year-old enjoying his first statistically-successful major league season.
Or do the Yankees really need a player to sit everyday while ARod, Jeter and Cano play everyday?  Do they need to deplete the bullpen for that type of player?

That was said by a double-jointed back-patter - me.
