Baseball America On XM Radio: Jose Ceda, Andrew Brackman & Hiroki Kuroda

I received notification in my daily prospect email from Baseball America that BA will have a regular appearance on XM Radio's "MLB Live Weekend" on MLB Homeplate Channel 175 at 1:25 PM on Saturdays.  I made it a point to listen to the show, and I am glad I did.  Here is some of what I heard.

  1. In a discussion about Rick Porcello's successful two-inning stint in yesterday's pre-season game, John Manuel recalled the discussions surrounding last year's amateur draft and its top pitchers.  In this discussion was Porcello, David Price and Andrew Brackman.  He said that the best stuff at its peak, regardless of ability to consistently show it, was owned by....Andrew Brackman.  This helps explain the Yankees's drafting and signing of the Tommy John surgery recovering pitcher.
  2. Hiroki Kuroda may have been underestimated in BA's Top 100.  He should have been ranked because his stuff looks better than they had heard, and he is bigger than his listed 6'0.
  3. BA' #4 prospect for the Cubs', reliever Jose Ceda, throws gas and looks very good in limited action this Spring.  However, Mr. Manuel wants to see more before moving Ceda out of the Kyle Farnsworth comp.  The 6'5 247 lbs reliever could be another Lee Smith according to the Baseball America Prospect Handbook 2008.  A notable stat from Ceda's 2007 campaign - he allowed more runs (17) than hits (16).
  4. There is a XM Radio special offer from Baseball America at www.baseballamerica.com/xmradio.

Delgado
headed back to NY for an MRI...and then Church sustains a concussion in a collision with Marlon Anderson....not good news for Mets fans.
Rumors of LAD interested in trading for Brandon Inge....why? Torre and Bowa apparently love him....great. If Pierre is involved in the deal, I would be fine with it.

Pierre
Raygu, I am getting the feeling over the past few months that you are not as big a fan, as you are Dodger fan, . . . . am I close?

How bout some love for his 60+ Sb/s, I better not hear one peep out of you outbidding me for his services.

Joe Fisaro on Maybin
"The organization has made it clear that Maybin was brought in to be its regular center fielder, but the big question remains as to exactly when he will be ready.

He won't turn 21 until April 4, and he has only 69 at-bats above the Class A level, including 49 with the Tigers last year.

In recent days, there has been growing indications around camp that the team is leaning toward starting off Maybin in the Minor Leagues for more seasoning.

Since speed is such a big part of Maybin's game, any kind of leg ailment could hold him back from being able to seriously compete for a starting job. He is regarded as a future star, and the Marlins appear to be in no rush to accelerate his development any more than they have to.

If Maybin isn't ready for Opening Day, Cody Ross and Alejandro De Aza, a left-handed hitter, could wind up platooning at the position. De Aza is off to a fast start this spring. He connected on a grand slam Thursday and followed that up with a homer Friday against the Nationals."

...keeping me fingers crossed.

+1
My thoughts exactly when i read he had some hammy tightness.  People who don't know anything about minor leaguers have no business dealing in draft picks.  Sort of like a rube who finds some uranium and wants to deal it.

He dies of radiation poisoning after selling it.  Just like the team who dealt you the picks will see his team do after one of them is a better Victorino.
