2011 Fantasy Football Weekly Waiver Wire
Fantasy Football Week 17 Waiver Wire Scoops
The last week of the season is usually a pretty sad time, so hopefully you were able to lock down some titles in Week 16. Some of you guys may have your Super Bowl this week (or possibly the second week of a two-week Super Bowl) and there could still be things to be settled.
This week is a bit mild as far as Week 17s go with so many teams having something to play for. The Packers and Texans are the two biggest teams that are locked into their position. Oddly enough those two teams have some serious assets as far as fantasy goes and their backups are more likely to see some more snaps than their accustom to. The other interesting situation is if the Lions are able to knock off the Packers (and their backups), the Falcons would not have anything to play for in their late game and will be locked up as the sixth seed.
Another thing I just wanted to point out is that if you know for a fact you know you're not going to start a guy, but you're slightly worried your opponent considering him, it's best to cut him so that he will be on waivers until after Sunday. Personally, I cut all my guys that I know I won't start the first thing Saturday morning and pick up other guys that could emerge with value by Sunday morning. Fantasy Keep Away is one of my favorite games.
Before we get to the guys to add, I just want to thank everyone for all the awesome questions and comments throughout the season in my first year in covering Fantasy Football. I've been playing for 10 years and covering all the details and watching all the games on Directv Short Cuts which made covering my favorite activity such a joy. All the people on Twitter have been awesome and I've enjoyed all the debates and struggling with the tough decisions all year. I can't believe I used to make fun of people on Twitter and it has totally changed the way I enjoy fantasy sports for the better (Note: if you're not on Twitter, you're missing out on some awesome knowledge from hundreds of writers!)

Fantasy Football Week 16 Waiver Wire Scoops
Welcome to the championship week and congrats if you've it this far. The hardest part is still to come though since second place is the first loser (although you probably got some money for making it to the Super Bowl). As we look at players to add for the week, allow me to provide a disclaimer by saying there really isn't a whole lot to grab in the most important of times. In fact we pretty much covered most of the guys last week, so hopefully you were able to heed my advice (especially for running backs). Don't forget you can ask me anything you want on Twitter about which guys to add/drop or start/sit all week. Let's just get right to it:
Quarterback
Matt Moore (10)
Matt Flynn (12)
Running Back
Wide Receiver
David Nelson (8)
Tight End
Jared Cook (13)

First and foremost, congratulations on being in the fantasy playoffs. I’m fairly certain that you wouldn’t be reading this just for your weekly reading (if you are, I’m highly flattered). Chances are that your team is pretty stacked since you got to this point and you might not even use the bottomless resource we like to call the waiver wire. Of course some of you may have lost DeMarco Murray, Greg Jennings or you’re just worried about Big Ben (don’t be too worried, but you should definitely have a backup), so we have you covered. There are not a lot of injury replacements besides the two gentlemen mentioned above and we pretty much hit on most of the other guys last week too (i.e. DeMaryius Thomas and Ryan Grant).
One quick other piece of advice is that it’s rarely a good idea to get cute and bench a guy that got you here. This doesn’t necessarily apply to running backs as much as quarterbacks because playing Rashard Mendenhall this week sure does seem like a roll of the dice (vs. San Fran). Also Cam Newton is fairly risky to start at Houston. Personally, I have a huge decision to make between him and Matty Ice by Thursday. If you're in a jam, don’t forget that you can ask me any start/sit question on Twitter @MikeSGallagher at any time for a second opinion.
Quarterback
T.J. Yates (13)

Fantasy Football Week 13 Waiver Wire Scoops
This week was by far the least impactful week of the fantasy season. There were basically no injuries on Sunday which may have propelled a player into a role that would garner your attention. That said, I really hope your team is equipped for the stretch run and doesn't have any glaring holes. As I have really been saying for the past three weeks now, it's all about grabbing guys with potential upside. It was indicated in my Rest of the Season Rankings last week and I even touched on it for Week 12 Running Back Rankings (check those out) on guys that are essentially one injury away. For the remaining weeks of the season, Waiver Wire Scoops will focus more on guys with favorable matchups in conjunction with some players that could/have climbed up the depth charts a little bit.
One other thing I just wanted to point out is how Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees are both accomplishing such amazing seasons and doing it with different styles. Last night Drew Brees was hitting wide-open guys all night. Brees doesn’t nearly have the velocity on his throws compared to Rodgers and his O-line has given him protection to do what he does best. Brees uses more of his skills at reading the defense and relying on his guys to come open. Sean Payton also deserves a lot of credit for the combination routes the Saints have been using for years.
On the other hand, we’ve never really seen anything like the way Aaron Rodgers is performing right now. As silly as it sounds, Rodgers’ game doesn’t even really require that his guys are open. He is such a gifted thrower of the football that he can just throw the ball into open spots in the coverage even while his target is in blanket coverage. We often use the term "indefensible", but there is absolutely no way one man stop the back-shoulder throw. A defender really can’t even jump the route because the amount of time for him to jump is much greater than the time it takes for the ball to be delivered by A-Rod.Which means if a defender was feeling saucy and jumped it, Rodgers wouldn't throw the back-shoulder and the receiver could adjust his route (or he'll just throw to someone else).
Fantasy Football: Week 12 Waiver Wire Scoops and Rest of the Season Rankings
It has been a heavy crop of wide receivers for the waiver wire for the past month or so and hopefully most of you guys have an arsenal of pass catchers for the rest of the season. Sunday had some big injuries in the backfield with Adrian Peterson and Fred Jackson going down and both could miss some time. This week we'll be doing the last Rest of the Season Rankings again and we've got the usual Waiver Wire Scoops on some players that have gained some value in the past week just below the rankings.
Check it all out after the jump:

The Houston Texans were dealt an enormous blow on Monday afternoon as it was announced that Matt Schaub will miss the of the season with a lisfranc injury. Many of you may remember Dwight Freeney a couple seasons ago dealing with this injury and it's one that resulted in the end to the season. Larry Johnson and Kevin Jones were also a couple of backs that dealt with this ailment. Basically, the lisfranc joint is where the front part of the foot meets the middle part of the foot and the injury results in a small fracture in that joint. Matt Schaub's injury is on his right foot, so when he transfers weight from his back foot with his hitch step to his front foot during the throwing motion, it should result in a lot of pain. The Texans have the AFC South locked up and it's a foregone conclusion that Matt Leinart will be their QB in the playoffs. All owners can do is cut Schaub in redraft leagues as he will likely have close to 10 months of time for treatment. Of course when the quarterback on an elite team goes down, there are going to be some ramifications for all the players in that offense. Let's go over them:
Fantasy Football 2011: Week 10 Waiver Wire Scoops and Rest of the Season Rankings
The title of this piece was intentionally lengthy to help represent the vast amount on information that you're about to receive! OK. Ya got me. That's a bunch of B.S., but I can assure you there is probably more useful stuff in today's article than you may find for the rest of the week.
We usually do the ROS action every month, but with the fantasy playoffs approaching quickly, we're going to give it a try again today. These are rankings that would basically serve as a cheat sheet if you were drafting today for the rest of the season. So they're not ROS ranking per se, because I'm taking into account guys that will serve as band-aids (or adhesive bandages, if you're anti Johnson & Johnson) such as Laurent Robinson. There are also a large number of handcuffs mixed in and might be higher than you expected. Some of these backs may be completely useless, while there's a chance that they're the next DeMarco Murray. It's worthy noting the reason why I'm so high on grabbing handcuffs is because the depth charts are already figured out and I feel a fantasy bench should be loaded with upside. The rankings including quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and tight ends. You will also find quite a bit underneath the rankings as I explains why some of the new crop of waiver-wire adds have some value.
