Buster Olney: Ryan: I think Marte and Nady will be traded, and so far, other GMs say, the asking price for Nady is off-the-charts high. I'm sure Pittsburgh wants to take advantage of any desperation that develops, but at some point, the price will probably have to come down. If, for comparison's sake, you rated the Sabathia trade package as a 10, I'd bet the Pirates would get an '8' package for Nady. The Dodgers have talked about Jack Wilson, but their larger problem is offense, and he would only harden that issue; they need somebody with pop, so it'll be interesting to see if the Dodgers' desperation reaches a point where they actually give up decent prospects for someone whose value (to them, in terms of addressing their problems) is dubious.

In 102 plate appearances, Ellsbury draw three walks and struck out 20 times—nearly once every five PAs. I was just back at my room and at about 5:30 in the morning I got a knock at the door. I opened it and 3 guys with guns were there. They cracked me in the head a few times, knocking me unconscious. They then robbed me of everything I had; my watch, money, everything! Somehow they got me to a car and dropped me off in the street. That’s what happened.

When the Mets sputtered in April, the back-stabbing began, with Randolph being undermined along the way. Words of Randolph's honest player evaluations in those staff meetings somehow made their way to the ears of players. That left the manager in a brutal position of trying to draw performance out of veterans who heard that behind closed doors the manager wasn't so sure if they had the right stuff anymore. Some on-field staff members doubted whether they could trust the front office.

Keith Lipscomb: Wow...well, I think too much is being expected of Joba too soon, so it might not be until next season that we start to see consistently strong outings from Chamberlain. Very tough to say 3-4 years from now, and my emotions are getting carried away with Volquez walking fewer guys lately, so I'll have to say him in the next couple years.

Steve (Ithaca): Hi AJ, general question about trading strategy - Do you think it's better to openly put a guy on the block in hopes of drawing multiple offers to choose from, or worse because the perception that you want to get rid of the player reduces his value? Thanks.
AJ Mass: (11:03 AM ET ) Openly putting a guy on the block doesn't have to lower his value. Think about it -- One week only... "Will take offers for Chase Utley!" Does that make Utley less valuable? No. Nothing wrong with shopping around, especially since you can always choose not to sell the guy.
