Pitching
Clayton Kershaw ($13,000) has a home start against the Padres and just like he has against everyone else he has an outstanding record against this collection of Padres. Over his past 5 starts Kershaw has struck out 11, walked 2.06 and allowed 0.51 bombs per nine innings and has gone 6 innings or better in 4 of those 5 starts. The Padres have a 23 percent strikeout rate, .295 wOBA and wRC+ of 88 against lefties this season.
Cole Hamels ($10,600) takes the hill at home today against the Los Angeles Angels. The sample size is small but Hamels has done very well against this collection of Angels. Over the past 5 starts Hamels is striking out 7.91, walking 1.91 and has allowed 1.09 bombs per nine innings pitched and has lasted 6 innings or better in each of these 5 starts. The Angels have a 18 percent strikeout rate, wOBA of .295 and wRC+ of 89 this season against lefties.
Jacob deGrom ($10,800) has a home game against the Washington Nationals and he's experienced some good success against this Nationals roster. Over his past 4 starts he's striking out 10.13, walking 0.75 and allowed 0.38 bombs per nine innings pitched and has lasted 6 or more innings in 3 of his last 4 starts. This season the Nationals have a 21 percent strikeout rate, wOBA of .313 and wRC+ of 95 against righties.
Danny Salazar ($9,100) faces the Red Sox in Cleveland and while the sample size is small he has some success against this Red Sox crew. Over his past 5 starts Salazar 5.40, walking 3.18 and has allowed just under 1 bomb per nine innings pitched and has lasted 6 innings or more in 3 of his last 5 starts. The Red Sox have a 17 percent strikeout rate, wOBA of .321 and wRC+ of 98 against righties this season.
Lance McCullers ($8,700) is on the road against the Arizona Diamondbacks and over his past 5 starts McCullers fanned 8.71, walked 2.61 and allowed 1.16 bombs per nine innings pitched and lasted 6 or more innings in 4 of those 5 starts. The Diamonbacks have a 20 percent strikeout rate, wOBA of .319 and wRC+ of 96 against righthanders this season.
Michael Pineda ($8,800) is in Baltimore to take on the Orioles and he's had mixed results against this Orioles roster. J.A. Happ ($7,300) has a home matchup with the Cincinnati Reds and while the sample size is small he has had some success against the current Reds. Over his last 5 starts Happ is striking out 11.40, walking less than 1 and has alllowed 0.60 bombs per nine iinnings pitched and has lasted 6 or more innings in 3 of his last 5 starts. The Reds have a 20 percent strikeout rate, wOBA of .311 and wRC+ of 93 against lefties this season. Happ might be a good GPP option on Sunday.
Dan Haren ($7,200) is on the road against the banged up Milwaukee Brewers and he might be a good GPP play today. Despite the small sample size his history against this current Brewers team is halfway decent. Over his past 5 starts Haren is fanning 7, walking 2.03 and has allowed 0.68 bombs and has gone 6 innings or more in 2 of his last 5 starts. The Brewers over the last 2 weeks have a 26 percent strikeout rate, wOBA of .283 and wRC+ of 73.
Possible Stacking Matchups for Sunday
The St Louis Cardinals have a favorable matchup with the Atlanta Braves Matt Wisler. Lefties have a wOBA of .434 against Wisler and the Cardinals have a wOBA of .323 and wRC+ of 103 against right-handers this season.
The Detroit Tigers have a favorable matchup against the White Sox Frankie Montas. The last time he faced the Tigers they torched him for 6 earned runs in just 3.1 innings pitched. Over the season the Tigers have a wOBA of .317 and wRC+ of 99.
The Chicago Cubs have a favorable matchup with the Brewers Jorge Lopez. Left handed hitters are slugging .625 with a wOBA of .419. For the season the Cubs have a .316 wOBA and wRC+ of 98 against right-handers this season. They also strikeout 24 percent of the time so keep that in mind when stacking Cubs today.
Possible Value Plays for Sunday
The Phillies Darin Ruf ($2,700) has a favorable matchup with the Marlins Adam Conley. Righties are slugging .471 with a .331 wOBA when Conley is on the road. Ruf has slaughtered lefties with a .470 wOBA and wRC+ of 203 against lefties this season.
The Padres Clint Barmes ($2,600) has had a tremendous amout of success over his career against Kershaw swatting 3 bombs and slashing .303/.361/.515/.876 and if he plays he might be a good salary relief option on Sunday.
The Orioles J.J. Hardy ($2,200) has had great success against the Yankees Michael Pineda hitting 3 bombs with a career slash line of .462/.500/1.154/1.654 line and might also be a good salary relief play on Sunday.
