Does Eddie Lacy deserve the hype?

I was one of the lucky ones who stole lacy in the 7th round of my 2013 Fantasy Draft. I always go running back heavy in standard leagues, and I felt like having a rookie RB on my team couldn't hurt. I assumed Lacy would basically be Trent Richardson in 2012 - who I also stole in the mid/late rounds of my 2012 draft- so I figured "What the Hell". Eddie Lacy was the third member of my iron core of running backs with Charles Murray and Lacy and along with Andrew Luck I won my league. However looking at rookie running backs that had blow out seasons their first year, the sophomore slump almost seams inevitable.

The best way I like to look at the Running back second year slump it to start by counting backwards; so lets take a look at Trent. Richardson as we all know was a stud in 2012, was projected to be a top 10 back in 2013, and ended up with a whopping total of 458 yards rushing/3 touchdowns/2 fumbles in ESPN Standard leagues. Meanwhile in 2012 Richardson had 950 yards rushing/11 touchdowns/3 fumbles. Its not just T. Rich thought look at Alfred Morris.

Morris posting top number in 2012, along with RG3, only finished behind Adrian Peterson. 1,613 yards rushing/13 touchdowns /4 fumbles, if it wasn't for RG3 Morris would be the face of that franchise. However his numbers took a dip in 2013, not as bad a Richardson's but was still a downgrade. 1,275 yards rushing/7 touchdowns/5 fumbles not bad but if you needed Morris to give you that extra six points to win your game against Chad, that annoying guy from the office, well then Morris just isn't gonna give you those points. Sorry buddy, just try to ignore Chad on Monday.

Lets look at Chris Johnson. His rookie year is was CJ2K with 14 TDs and 3 Fumbles in 2009. Remember when people thought the Titans were going undefeated? The good old days. 2010 comes along and CJ2K turns into CJ1.3ishK (not as catchy) with 11TDs and 2 fumbles. I know Morris and Johnson both slumped their sophomore years but still Lacy has a different story.

Why did Lacy excel so much and put the team on his back? Aaron Rodgers was Injured since week 9! With a health Rodgers and Randall Cobb, not to mention Jordy Nelson and up incoming study Jarrett Boykin, where is Lacy going to get his time to shine? The Packers love to throw! Lacy will get some goal line pushes, and garbage time points but nothing more. Lacy also had a foot injury his sophomore year in college (2011), and was injured in week 2 and missed week 3 in 2013.

Overall, Lacy is going to be a good number 2, but I've seen experts draft him before players like Jamaal Charles, Adrian Peterson, and Matt Forte. Maybe he is that good? Or maybe he is going to be a bust like his fellow Alabama running Trent Richardson.
