Though I am not the smartest or even most experienced fantasy baseball owner, I am someone who has played. The last few years, I have been able to pick someone up mid-season who has come through and been a solid pitcher on my team. Sonny Gray, Ryan Vogelsong and a few others come to mind. I started in a new yahoo league with some friends this year and while I am in 3rd place so far, I am in a very smart league and I need a leg up. I asked about helping me a few weeks ago, and most of the responses I got had to do with the spectacularly shitty pitching staff I have.
Now, mind you, I thought I had built an amazing staff heading into the season. Sure, there were certain players I wanted to pick up that got drafted before I had a chance to get them (Madison Bumgardner, Chris Sale and Zack Grienke), some guys I picked up on the waver wire and dropped too early (Henderson Alvarez and Wily Peralta) and ones I traded in order to get something better (I traded Chris Archer and got Sonny Gray and Nelson Cruz). Ultimately, I didn't want to try to pick up a diamond in the rough this year, but with Homer Bailey, Zack Wheeler and Shelby Miller underperforming; Alex Wood banished to the bullpen; and the inconsistent Gio Gonzalez on the DL, I have found myself at a loss. My best pitchers right now are Sonny Gray, Jaime Garcia and Drew Hutchinson. I also have Tommy Malone and Jesse Chavez, who make me crazy uncomfortable.
I am asking...no, begging for some guidance on potential aces I may have overlooked in this smart league I so desperately want to win.
