Currently I am participating in a 14 team league in yahoo fantasy baseball with all of my friends. We use a categorical scoring system in a non-auction format that includes the following categories: Runs, Hits, Home Runs, Stolen Bases, RBIs, Batting Average, On Base Percentage, Wins, Losses, Saves, Strikeouts, ERA, Whip, and Blown Saves. From everything I've researched this season and looked into here, I believe the smarter play is to really draft 4-6 hitters with my first 4-6 picks. The positions my league has to fill are C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, 3 OF, 1 DH, 2 SP, 2 RP, 3 P and 7 bench players. My current dilemma is to draft Trout or Cabrera?
Initially I was truly all in on Miguel Cabrera as my number 1 pick and then looking to do something like (#28): Jay Bruce or Shin-Soo Choo,(#29) Freddie Freeman, (#56) Matt Holiday, and (#57) Adrian Gonzalez.
However, I also consider the thought of Evan Longoria being there there for my second round pick. Although Miguel Cabrera can play 1B and 3B, I've then thought of grabbing Trout and doing (#1) Trout, (#28) Evan Longoria, (#29) Freddie Freeman, (#56) Matt Holliday, and (#57) Adrian Gonzalez.
The questions I have are what would you do? Is Trout/Longoria a better combo then Cabrera/Bruce?
Would you do anything different with my next 3 selections picks (#29), (#56), (#57)? (Of course being realistic and taking hitters)
Last year I finished my league in 3rd and drafted completely differently. Hopefully this year I can have a better draft and win it all.
