Brett Lawrie will use his glove at second base when he comes off the DL. - Al Messerschmidt

Four potentially fantasy-useful starting pitchers were called up this week and one rehabbing impact fantasy player is transitioning to second base.

Call-Ups

Jarred Cosart will make his MLB debut on Friday against the Rays. He will strictly be a matchup play for fantasy purposes due to his command issues. If you really need SP help in an AL-only league then he's worth taking a shot on. Don't expect his 3.29 ERA in the minors this year to be repeated in MLB but he should provide plenty of strikeouts.

Grant Green will get some playing time at 2B for the Oakland A's. He'll provide a decent average with a little bit of pop. He's a must-add in most AL-only leagues. If he is able to adjust well and get most fo the playing time at 2B then he could provide similar statistics to what we've seen from Jed Lowrie in the first half of this season.

Sonny Gray will initially pitch out of the A's bullpen but if he gets a chance to start he'll be worth adding. He had a 2.81 ERA with over a K per inning in the heavy-hitting PCL. That's impressive.

Danny Salazar is having a breakout season for the Indians and he impressed yesterday with 6 IP, 1 ER, and 7 K. He should get a chance to stick in the Indians rotation moving forward but nothing is definite. John Sickels posted his take yesterday. I have a really good feeling about Salazar.

Erasmo Ramirez has joined the Mariners rotation and will be a strong matchup play moving forward. In AL-only leagues he is a must-add despite struggling against the Red Sox yesterday. It's worth noting that Ramirez had control problems yesterday and also in his last minor league start. He is capable of correcting whatever the issue is because he has had a relatively low walk rate throughout his minor league career and even last season in MLB he had a 48:12 K:BB. He'll face either the Astros or Indians in his next start.

Notes

Steve Delabar picked up a save this week after Casey Janssen's implosion. He was just voted into the all-star game and I think that he should be owned as Janssen's handcuff moving forward despite Sergio Santos' upcoming return next week. Delabar is a dominant reliever and has a career K/9 of 12.28 thus far. Janssen is in no danger of losing his job at this point.

Josh Phegley is looking good so far in MLB. He hit a grand slam yesterday. That's already his 3rd HR and he's worth a pickup even in 12-team leagues at this point unless you are already set at catcher. Even so, if the trade deadline hasn't passed yet then picking him up and dangling him for help elsewhere would be a savvy move.

Ivan Nova has taken his game up a notch lately and is worth a pickup in most mixed leagues. He has 17 IP with 2 wins and a 17:3 K:BB over his last two starts, both at HR-friendly Yankee Stadium. David Phelps could be moved to the bullpen moving forward but there's also a chance that Phil Hughes will be traded.

Injuries

Brett Lawrie will return after the all-star break as the starting second baseman. Lawrie could be a top-ten 2B heading into 2014 if he can stay healthy.

Unbelievable. Derek Jeter returned yesterday and went 1-4 with a RBI and a run scored but he injured his quad. Keep checking for more updates but at best it looks like he'll only be available at DH until after the all-star break.

Tommy Hanson could return to the Angels rotation by the end of the month. His stuff has been in decline for a while now and he's having a legitimately bad season. I recommend avoiding him in any format.

Justin Maxwell might return this weekend but if not then he should be back after the all-star break. He hasn't done much on his rehab assignment or in MLB this season but if he gets hot he can provide plenty of power and speed with a very low batting average. The Astros have indicated that George Springer won't be up until September so Maxwell has at least 6 or 7 weeks to turn things around.
