Around the League - A.L.

Kevin Gausman will get another chance to prove he is MLB-ready. - USA TODAY Sports

Kevin Nielsen provides an American League update for injuries, call-ups, and other fantasy news. Kevin Gausman, Trevor Bauer, and Dustin Ackley return to MLB. Kyle Gibson to make his debut.

Kyle Gibson will make his MLB debut on Saturday vs. the Royals. I really like him for AL-only leagues and he makes for solid matchup play in mixed leagues. I don’t think Gibson has big impact upside for this year but he should be able to post an ERA in the 3.75-4 range.

Dustin Ackley will split time between the OF and 2B. He hit really well at AAA and I think he’s worth a shot if you need a 2B help.

Kevin Gausman will likely start tomorrow at home vs. the Yankees. Despite his struggles in MLB thus far I recommend picking him up for this start.

Tommy Hanson could be out until late July with an arm injury. With Jason Vargas possibly out until sometime in August, Jerome William and Garret Richards seem to each have a secure rotation spot for the foreseeable future.

J.A. Happ and Brandon Morrow’s could make their respective returns to the Blue Jays rotation in about a month. Chien-Ming Wang has looked good thus far but don’t get too excited. He’ll face the Red Sox tonight and the Tigers next week. I would start him late next week against the Twins.

Brett Lawrie will likely be able to return before the all-star break. Despite a rough second half last year and an even worse start to this season I still believe in Lawrie’s ability to provide plenty of fantasy value from the hot corner.

Chris Perez will be activated tonight but I would hang on to Vinnie Pestano with Perez having a rough year, being a trade candidate, and his risk for re-injury.

Brian Roberts will return this weekend and I think he’s worth a pickup even in mixed leagues if you need 2B help. He’s a huge injury risk at this point but he should still produce while he’s in the lineup.

Dylan Bundy will have Tommy John Surgery and shouldn’t be a factor for fantasy until 2015.

David Price should be able to make his return sometime next week.

Clay Buchholz is dealing with a shoulder issue and could be out until after the all-star break.

Anibal Sanchez has a chance to return before the all-star break.

Jake Peavy will likely make his return in 3-4 weeks.

It’s been a drama-filled week for the Yankees and Alex Rodriguez and now it’s unclear whether he will return at all this season.

Mark Teixeira will likely undergo season-ending wrist surgery. This could affect some decision-making regarding his value in keeper leagues this off-season as well. Lyle Overbay will regain his value but I think the Yankees will end up trading for an upgrade near the deadline.

After posting a 10.32 ERA in April, Erik Bedard had a 3.99 ERA in May and is having his best month yet with a 3.19 ERA in June thus far. He gets the Rays at home in his next start and he might be worth a pickup in AL-only leagues.

Trevor Bauer and Carlos Carrasco each get a start in tomorrow’s doubleheader against the White Sox. I would start Bauer but ignore Carrasco.

Koji Uehara is in at closer for the Red Sox but be careful about investing too much in him. There’s at least a decent possibility that the Red Sox end up trading for a closer.

Tom Wilhelmsen still looks like the best bet to save the most games for the Mariners the rest of the season.

Michael Pineda is getting closer and closer to being called up and once he joins the Yankee rotation I think he’ll be an impact fantasy SP the rest of the way.
